Mix together:
1 Tbs yeast
1 1/4 cups warm water
3 cups whole wheat (we use Prairie Gold)
2 Tbs butter soft or melted
1 tsp salt (we don't add salt to anything)
2 Tbs honey
1 egg
Mix well or use mixer/dough hook. Cover and allow to rest/rise 30 mins. Stir 30 strokes (I used mixer again, but you could oilyour hands and give it a quick knead if you wanted)
Pat/dump into greased bread pan. Cover and rise in warm place then bake @ 350 for 30 mins. Makes 1 loaf.
I may try doubling tomorrow. I have several yummy natural/wheat flour, etc recipes to get on the pantry blog as soon as time permits.

Looking forward to them.
Thank you so much for this recipe. I have tried many and never had them turn out the way I love.
I made the bread this morning. I'm eating it as I type. LOL This is perfect. The crust isn't hard and it had a great rise. I have found my favorite bread.
Thanks again and have a great day!

Left you a run-on at my place./// Copied out this recipe. Gotta try it. ///Any thoughts on what you'd get for the canning apron? Maybe in a medium-weight denim, something heavy enough to hang but not as stiff as a board. Large size. I'm into functional. No hurry. I haven't written the check for the roof, yet!!!

What size of pan are you using? This one looks square in the picture. I am wanting to try to make a homemade wheat bread that my husband likes. am glad I found your blog.
Hi Sharon,
It's just a regular loaf pan. Most of mine are the larger 9x5 size, but an 8x4 would work just as well with it.
Sorry it looks square -- must have been the cell phone angle when I took the picture.
Another note -- we sprinkled the dough (smashed out a bit flat) with some brown sugar/cinnamon mixture and rolled it up tight to loaf shape -- delicious!!!
I still need to give doubling/tripling a shot. I really don't do single loaf recipes anymore with such a large family.
Enjoy!
Deanna
