That's the latest projection. I suppose you could look at it as a scare tactic to get folks to subject themselves to the new vaccine regime. On the other hand, if they figure 40% or better will get it, I'd just as soon hunker down and enjoy a more secluded winter.
Whatever your view, at least decide what you're going to do and when you're going to do it. Don't just follow the sheep off the cliff because you're senseless.

In a disturbing new projection, health officials say up to 40 percent of Americans could get swine flu this year and next and several hundred thousand could die without a successful vaccine campaign and other measures.
The estimates by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are roughly twice the number of those who catch flu in a normal season and add greater weight to hurried efforts to get a new vaccine ready for the fall flu season.
Swine flu has already hit the United States harder than any other nation, but it has struck something of a glancing blow that's more surprising than devastating. The virus has killed about 300 Americans and experts believe it has sickened more than 1 million, comparable to a seasonal flu with the weird ability to keep spreading in the summer.

Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.

I'll just be doing what I do best, stay at home. I will be ordering our staples for the winter in about 6 wks and I'll just add a few extras. We have never done the flu shot and I wont be starting now. However, we did get the seasonal flu last year for the first time ever. I still think we have pretty good odds.
Ok, I don't know how I feel about the swine flu. I am an RN, and I find it odd that it hit in summer when most flu's are not active.
I know it has killed a bunch of people, but right now the numbers are no worse than the regular flu viruses. Plus, it is killing the same people...immuno-compromised. So I have to wonder about this vaccine and such. They are rushing it through before they are weighing out the side effects. AND, I think this all might be a ploy to get people behind Obama's "health care plan". Socialism is socialism...it doesn't work. The world has proved that.
I even heard that with his plan, if you do not join it...there will be fines assessed that are the same as the cost for the plan... All of this strong arming is starting to hurt mine. =0)
Ok, I'm done now. Just my 2 cents. Personally I think I will be hunkering down with you.
I think it's all a bunch of hoopla. I had it and got over it in 4 days. I had the regular flue last year and was sick for 2 weeks and then got pneumonia from it. If you ask me I'd rather get the swine flue again before the regular one.
Thanks for all your information. I decided that Aug. was going to be my month to stock up on the pain/fever reducers, upset tummy med, cold and flu stuff, cough med, etc. If there is a run on this stuff, I want to make sure I have mine! Thanks again for your research and info.
