Has it been all week??

It's already Friday. What happened to the rest of this week?

Yesterday, the children and I headed up to Tennessee to visit with Bro. George and Christina and family. It was a wonderful drive I could have kicked myself for forgetting the camera, though. The leaves are turning all through the mountains up there and it was beautiful. And I could have gotten some photo's of all the children playing about all day.

But, I forgot it on the desk.

At the end of this month, Bro George's will be moved from Tennessee over to northwestern Arkansas. They've been paring down to go completely off-the-grid over there, so with my visit, I came home with a small wood cookstove we'll set up alongside the other one for use, and a quilting frame, and a couple bags of quilt scraps all ready to go.

Oh...and there was Bismark...

I'll add the pictures into this entry later. Right now I'm up to my elbows with this huge squash thing called a Potato Pumpkin or some such. It's huge. Christina had a full canner cooking down on the stove and it was just a mass amount of pumpkin/squash cubes. These things are shaped a bit like a birdhouse-style gourd but on a scale for something like one of those turkey vultures or something. They can get upwards of 20+ pounds! I have the seeds drying off a bit in the warmth of the oven and we'll certainly be planting these next year. Goodness, you could plant just a couple of mounds and have enough sweet potato/squash canned for the winter :o)

Tomorrow we are going to a local pumpkin patch with church. It's David's birthday -- he turns 4 already! I'm hoping to pick up some sugar pumpkins/pie pumpkins to chunk up and can while there. Most likely, I'll detour coming home and hit the Amish market in Pontotoc where I'm sure the prices will be much better suited to my remaining budget.

I have been following your blog and I am confused. Maybe I just missing something. Do you live in TN?

I'd love to see a picture of that "Potato Pumpkin" thingy...I've never heard of it, and the only thing I could find online is a Sweet Potato Squash?? It's also called Delicata or Bohemian squash, but don't know if it's the same as yours.

I'll be taking my granddaughter to a pumpkin farm this weekend, too. We don't celebrate Halloween, but this place doesn't focus on that. I'll be posting photos, Lord willing, of goats, sheep, chickens, and some HUGE pumpkins! Well, enjoy your weekend...and happy birthday to your son (4 is a great age!)

I would love to see pics of the potato pumpkin too, sounds very interesting!!

I would also love to go to an amish market but I don't think we have any here in VA.

Happy Birthday to your little one, our oldest just turned 7 last wednesday and our youngest turned 3 last month, the time surely flies by.

Blessings to you and yours,
Dana

Brenda and Dana...our potato pumpkin is the same thing as the sweet potato pumpkin. They are really big and have a nice, light colored flesh to them. they are supposed to be good for pies, very much like the sweet potatoes. It canned up 7 qts from just one of them! I saved the seeds for next year.

I'll get some pictures up Monday for you.
