No "New Year's Resolutions" here

I don't do the whole New Year's Resolutions thing. Never have. Change can, and should, be made daily. There's no magic in a date on a calendar. It's just another day. We get them every 24 hour cycle.

Most people who make elaborate plans for the New Year do not come close to completing them. They are all on fire for a week before and several weeks following that date change, but the fruition ends there with the excitement at least 90% of the time (and I truly do believe that's a low estimate, but I'm trying to give the benefit of the doubt for sincerity sake).

The big draw to New Year's Resolutions is much like a church holding and annual Revival week. The preaching goes all out, so many topics covered with good, sound, TRUE Scripture and not the 'collected stories of Preacher A' as you find during the weekly services all year. The music is selected special, the the sermons planned out to the 'enth' degree, and weeks ahead of that opening night everyone in the church starts building up a fever pitch of excitement over the greatness that revival week will bring. It's talked about with previously unheard levels of excitement, Jesus is coming folks! Don't miss out! It's in the Sunday School classes, the mid-week class, the Sunday evening discipleship class. This revival, this one will be THE ONE that makes all the difference.

And it might.

But where's this pitch the rest of the year? Where's this level of all tongues speak the glorious coming of Revival all year? Revival can be AMAZING, I'm not saying for one minute it can't be, but if you're only on fire, on that kind of 5 alarm fire, for a few weeks around that yearly Revival meeting, you aren't making many real changes. Same goes for those New Year's Resolutions. If it's only worth the build-up, the excitement, the hype of December and January, you are destined to fail.
And these falls, they are usually the hardest ones to recover from.

Make up your mind and heart to change DAILY. Get on fire DAILY. Once a year isn't doing anyone much good.

Deanna, I agree so much with this. Each day we have been given is a gift. If we have failed yesterday, we have a new day to start over. I have found if I do not read my bible and check in with God before I do anything else, my day does not go as well. Why many people fail is because they are trying to change everything at one time. Take one or two things and work on them daily. Then add more as you see the first part becoming routine. Find a person to be accountable to if you need to. Our bible study is such a help. Diana

Jeremiah 6:16
Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.
