Just a Heads Up...

You know how well I am at "making friends" with my opinions here...well I also seem to attract that same set of emotions on Facebook, too.

You might want to steer clear of the fire around my discussing Haiti's devastation on a friend's FB page.

I can't help myself. I seem to be a can of worms magnet. I understand how deeply the loss has been and still is in Haiti, I do. But why are we as a country so passionate about helping there, and ignoring the devastation on our own soil? I was told I simply don't understand. In a private note I was even called "shallow hearted" because I am comparing the massive loss of human life to "picking up tar balls on my beach front yard".

Ugh. Yeah, ok. First off, the devastation in Haiti is massive, I totally agree. But why are we so heavy-handed with aid there? Because a president can lay claim to roots there? Where were the banners and multi-ads on television when Sri Lanka was hit so hard? Where were the pleadings for aid to the Philippines?

Please, this has nothing to do with tar beach balls. What an ignorant remark.

There are massive losses of life daily in this world. I cannot be there to aid everyone. I understand the missionary calling, but isn't it a touch of pride to say you ran off to aid these people or that people as a missionary?? I'm sorry, but if you can find something to be proud about aiding people in foreign lands and you cannot find that same satisfaction here in your own back yard on your own soil, that is simply arrogance. There is no foreign field of mission work that is as important as aiding your neighbor here at home.

So, just a heads-up...steer clear on FB.

Thanks for the warning! Some people don't understand that friendship/acceptance is a two-way street. They will only be your friend or accept you if you agree with them on EVERYTHING!!! Glad you got it worked out.

Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.
