Resolutions...and Following Through...
I am a habitual list maker. I sit down every day, sometimes multiple times a day and write out lists for everything! There's something about seeing a list of chores with everything crossed off and accomplished...at least that's the ideal list:)
Each year around New Year's day, I sit down and right out a list of New Years Resolutions. My problem is that I never follow through with accomplishing and crossing things off the list, and it gets frustrating. Is it a lack of commitment on my part? Is it laziness??
So here I am this last day in December, the last day of a decade, and I'm writing out another list! But this time I'm making a few improvements! The list is going on my blog and there won't be an excuse of losing the piece of paper...I'll have my readers to keep me accountable, and instead of writing a huge list (like I tend to do when it comes to lists) I'm going to keep it manageable. Instead of my list being focused on "things" like I've done in previous years (i.e. finish math by April, train the dog, clean the barn every month) I'm going to prioritize and work on personal goals and improving my character. I'll choose 12 character qualities (working on 1 per month)starting with the Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22&23). At the end of the month after studying a character quality, I'll keep working on it for the rest of the year.2010 Monthly Character StudyJanuary - LoveFebruary - JoyMarch - PeaceApril - PatienceMay - KindnessJune - GoodnessJuly - FaithfulnessAugust - GentlenessSeptember - Self-ControlOctober - ServiceNovember - HospitalityDecember - ContentmentThe character studies are something that I am looking forward to...but above all, in 2010, I want to be a light for Jesus Christ in this world of darkness, I want to serve the Lord and bless others, and I want to prepare for my future and whatever the Lord has planned for me!"Whom have I in heaven but You?And there is none up on earth that I desire besides You.My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."Psalm 73:25&26

Those New Year's resolutions are wonderful, and the character traits are ones that I would like to improve in my life, too.
My New Year's resolution is to spend more time with God in prayer, reading His Word and meditation on His Word. :)
Have a great week,
Blessings,
Jillian
