Just Fishing and Pondering...

San Antonio.

Anybody know anything about the area?

Texas homeschooling laws?

Storms and other weather I might interested in?

Any good Amish and/or Mennonite communities around there, bulk shopping opportunities, rental properties?

What's the gardening prospects like?

Gun laws?

I've only been to Texas once. I was young and stupid. Don't remember much aside from the great shopping at a big Dallas mall. Godiva chocolates were delicious. And expensive.

See? My priorities were a bit skewed back then.

Whaddya know about San Antonio that I might like to know. I'm just doing some fishing...no particular reason.

I've only been to San Antonio once, so don't specifically know much about it.

Homeschooling laws in Texas are the best! Unfortunately, many of the school districts seem determined to ignore the laws.

Texas is one hot place to live. We lived in Austin about 10 years and it was enough for me. Oh, giant cockroaches lurk in Texas as well. They're called tree roaches or palmetto bugs. EEEEWWWW!

Homeschool laws are super easy. Just make sure to start teaching something by age five, colors, shapes etc. No testing, no need to write letters to school districts, or anything else like a lot of states. (Their laws are like Oklahoma laws.)

Lots of good fieldtrips, but other than that, I'm not much help.

It's hot there, that's about all I know. I'm actually from the panhandle area there. My husband's been to San Antonio and says it's a really nice place, but I don't think they have a winter to speak of. Texas homeschooling laws are pretty easy going like Oklahoma as far as I know, gun laws are the best around from what I've heard. The gardening there is in clay soil which is always a challenge, but you're able to grow more year around b/c of the temps. Weather, well, this is tornado alley, and you're living mighty close to the coast during hurricane season. Hope that helps some.

If you are looking for Homeschooling laws, go to HSLDA.org. They have all the homeschooling laws for all of the states.

I wouldn't move to Santone. Stay away from big cities. There are some Mennonite communities. Rural. You might check Christian Light Publishers for folks in eastern and south Texas. I think there is one group near Grays Prairie near Kaufman . . . . . Homeschools are considered private schools. You run your own school. . . . . . Check out Debra Medina, running for Republican spot in the governor's race. Primary is in March.. . . . Guns? Not a bunch of liberals. .. . . . . No state income tax. Still some of the Republic in our blood.
