Dewey is working out some questions and such to talk turkey with some folks. Granted, I haven't had to do that kind of thing for a while. For a long while. For a really long while, if you're talking jobs and so forth.
Here's my idea...like I said, I am a bit rusty of proper job speak etiquette...
my thoughts are we're busy,
these folks are busy,
let's just cut to the nitty gritty.
They know what they are willing to offer, we know what we are willing to accept so let's just get the details out in the open and save all the soft soap chit chat.
Apparently that isn't the way polite society goes. Huh. Who knew. Well, I have been out of mainline life for a while. Technically, the last paying job I had was a good 14 years ago, give or take. And it wasn't really one full of negotiations for pay and such. LOL...I didn't even play that game when I was hiring and firing folks.
What can I say? I'm pretty much a cut-n-dried sort of person in the nooks and crannies of my life. I just don't have time for all that theatrical banter that no one is really interested in.
Seriously, though....is it really considered undelicate and brash to just shake hands and cut tot he brass tacks? If there's not a meeting of minds on what they want to offer and what we want to accept, it would save everyone time and effort to just lay it all out from the git go....

It's not just the brass tacks of the deal. The WHO is very important. Reading between the lines takes time. An employer doesn't want to get stuck with someone they wish later they'd never become involved with -- someone who isn't easy to rid of. Too many laws and regs to dance around these days. Can get very expensive to turn around if they hire the wrong person. Just way too much government in business these days. The proposed healthcare bill would make it a nightmare for small businesses, in particular. --- Three years ago I wanted to start a business here; not so sure now. I think we're better off trying to get by on as little as possible.
Amen to that! I am too old to play high school, "do you like me" games, and my time and others time is too valuable to waste. Just my humble opinion :)
Most anything above entry level employment is this way. The company knows what the highest amount is that they are willing to pay, but if they can get you in cheaper they will. And as the person wanting employment you can always counter offer. Oftentimes though the person wanting employment is on the spot, they need to say what they want - this way of doing things seems unfair.
It is the way of doing business, overhead is to be kept low, and everyone wants to make a deal, and that is the way the world goes round.
