And The Day After...

Brings left-overs from 2 large turkey's, stuffing/dressing, mashed potatoes and all those other trimmings.

And the usual daily chores, with some added in as well. We are wood cutting and hauling today. There are some trees down from summer storms and 2 really large ones on the neighbors field he said we could get.

I'm back to working on sewing needs here. Dresses pants and shirts top my list. I have 4 pretty dress lengths here in the rinse right now I picked up for dresses. Now, the plan is they are for me...but I always sew for myself last, and usual I end up giving up those 'me' fabrics to someone else. I'm really planning to use these for myself. I bought them with the idea of 2 dresses and 2 apron pinafores to go with, but the more I look at them, I'm thinking all 4 in dresses. I want to get that Edwardian apron set, as well as the Jewel aprons.

Oh well, we'l see what happens after the washing, ironing and folding gets done and I actually get to laying out and cutting.

The Great Pyr newborns didn't make it :o( The Vet said there is a good chance they were early, plus the possibility of pneumonia. Our dilema now is do we allow Cotton to be bred again. They havevery large litters, most mommas are not prepared to manage a large litter likethat, and they should not be left alone with them. She was certainly not prepared for motherhood this time around, and despite the fact that we weren't either, there is a good possibility she won't do much better a second time. We don't really need more dogs, that's for sure, and it's not easy caring for a large litter like that ourselves.

Right now, Cotton is (unhappily) penned in with Malachi, away from Buddy.

This week we will divide the barn into the birthing pens and get the temp shelter set up for the others. Then it's time to gather the needed supplies into one location just in case they're needed, separate the ladies due first and watch and wait. I need another baby monitor. LOL...beats making trips to the barn every hour or so when the time comes. I'll have to look at what's available these days. Haven't bought one of those in YEARS.

We are also getting the new year plan laid out, for homestead and schooling. And I haven't pulled all the tax stuff together yet either. And we are doubling up the storage plans and prep here for as long as we can. There's just too much going in the wrong direction out there and I really feel a stronger pull toward beefing up those prep areas.

It'll be busy around here, no doubts about that.
What plans do you have lined up as you close out one year and open the next?

I'm so sorry to hear about the pups. What a downer. We've always done better with mutts than pure-bred dogs. Doesn't make it any easier on the kids. They sure were cute pups, though.

Praying your Christmas was blessed! Ours was eventful to say the least, but I'll have to share that later. I'm hoping to be back to my regular, yet limited internet time in the next week or so. I think you should sew yourself at least one apron/pinafore...you deserve it. We're making plans as well for the new year, hoping to post about it all soon.

I am sorry about the pups. That is so sad. I would love to hear more of your preparations for stocking up. We all need to do more of that.

I am so sorry you lost your pups, that has to be difficult, esp with children at Christmas. I hope that you and your family had a wonderful Christmas , despite that. And, I know from reading your blog that you celebrated that true meaning of Christmas. I hope you have a wonderful New Year. AND thank you for the wonderful recipes that helped make my families holiday more enjoyable!

We have a lot of planning and actual doing going on too....we just moved 2 months ago, so still working on building up the pantry, lots of baking (although I can't do that too far in advance because of no large freezer yet).

I am going to get my "work" area set up in the back room and attempt to learn to sew also.

Plus getting the homeschooling stuff set up for the next few months, instead of flying by the seat of my pants. LOL

Hope you have a blessed time with your family.
