It was nippy in the house -- still is if you're working outside and want to come in for a finger warming (everyone's splitting wood out back today).
We fired up the cookstove this morning and set to fixin' breakfast :o)
Pan-fried some leftover ham slices from last night's dinner. Fried some eggs. Made pancakes up with yummy black raspberry jam for topping. And biscuits.
Might not be an accomplishment for everyone, but I've had one main issue with cookstove meals...the 'baking' part.
Well, I won't say I've mastered it by any stretch, but look at that plate of fresh from the wood oven buttermilk biscuits!
They were HUGE. They rose up SO MUCH more than in the oven in the kitchen.
And good. We made a huge batch and there's pancake sandwiches and biscuit sandwiches for an afternoon snack as well.
And a big pot of beans cooking on there now...and a nice big pot roast surrounded by veggies in the cookstove oven. Don't know if it will cook in there all day or if we'll finish it off in the kitchen, but man it smells really good in here!
I'm back to sewing :o). It's a quiet day with everyone outside tending the wood pile needs. I might be able to get the whole dress finished today.

Sounds almost peaceful. Real nice.
Good Afternoon Deanna...Your biscuits are beautiful. I have heard it does take careful watching to bake in a wood cook stove. Yours turned out nicely. I just wanted to let you know that I haven't forgotten about you. I am still looking for the right fabric for my apron. I hope you are having a warm blessed week. Amy Gray
