We camped in Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia. We also drove through North Carolina and South Carolina. My kids are 6 and 9. We have, by now, developed nearly impeccable hand washing and hand sanitizing habits. Any time, and I mean ANY time we touched a surface, a pushbutton, a doorknob, a pen, or any surface another person could have touched, we washed and/or sanitized all our hands. We have become very germ conscious over the past two or three months, all on account of fears of H1N1. Was it enough? No. Both my kids came down with it as soon as we got home from our trip. They are both pretty much over it now, but they were pretty sick for a few days. My point is that we can get it despite our best efforts. After all, we do share the same air as infected people as soon as we are in a room with others, like church, supermarket, or restaurant. If someone coughs or sneezes, all those germs distribute throughout the air in the room and then you or I breathe it in. People are contagious for a day before they even have any symptoms. That means that apparently healthy people can still spread it. The only way to completely avoid it is to never leave our house and never allow anybody to visit. I am convinced that is true, especially after getting sick after this trip, when we were SO careful. Anyway, I am glad that my kids are over it. I wasn't planning on getting them the vaccine anyway.Breezy Point Momhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11946514159733131280noreply@blogger.com
